The Council of Professional Supply Chain Management (CPSCM) annual report states that logistics spending in the U.S. is up. The report finds growth in trucking and rail, and decline in ocean freight and air cargo.
The standard interior dimension of a truck trailer is 99 to 100 inches wide. Try to build your pallets and crates taking these dimensions into account to optimize cost.
Pallets with both dimensions in excess of 48” x 48” do not fit side by side inside a trailer thereby requiring loaders to stagger pallets and occupy more lineal space in a trailer thus costing you more money
When you have an option, purchase or build 4-way instead of 2-way pallet and crate bases.
4-way pallet and crate bases allow forklifts and pallet jacks to access all four sides of your pallets and crates. This facilitates easier loading and off-loading.
With 4-way pallets, loaders can better position pallets and crates in trailers to optimize lineal floor space occupied and help lower freight costs over the long term. Also, optimal positioning reduces load shift and lowers the risk of damage during transportation.
